FAQ

The Basics

WHAT IS "MONKEY WATCHING?"

Monkey Watching is exactly what the name implies. Like the hobby of bird watching, monkey watchers view wild primates from a safe distance, and often photograph or write notes about the species they see. Watching monkeys does NOT involve feeding, chasing, interacting with or interfering with the animals. This includes not taking "selfies" with primates under ANY circumstances.

WHO CAN BE A MONKEY WATCHER?

Anyone, any age, anywhere in the world can be a monkey watcher. Primates live in areas all around the world. Though, there may not be wild monkeys near you, it may be possible to travel to a place where monkeys live, especially Central and South America, Africa, and throughout Asia. Infact, there are a few unique wild or semi-wild populations in countries like the USA, France and Spain.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE A MONKEY WATCHER?

If you are in an area that has wild monkeys, the main thing you need is to follow the local laws and view monkeys ethically. Also, your safety and the safety of the animals is a MAIN PRIORITY. It's encouraged that you learn about monkeys and prepare to safely view them before you make a trip into their habitat.
As for equipment, there's no special gear needed.
