"Nuisance" monkeys

When macaque troops compete for resources aggression levels are higher. A few months ago, while visiting Lembang, Indonesia, I witnessed what locals consider "nuisance monkeys."

There were between 40 - 50 monkeys, haphazardly traversing the occupied homesteads of village people. The macaques were not in a calm state. The monkeys seemed vigilant and keyed up. Evidence of aggression happened as we passed by and fighting broke out among the small primates.

The villagers homes are across the street from local food stalls. The area is developed and natural resources are depleted or lower quality.
