Updates!

August brings long stretches of hot, dry weather here in Jakarta. During the Dry Season months, Troop Bravo sometimes struggles to forage natural foods. On August 8, 2023, I observed the long-tailed macaques raiding garbage cans throughout the park and spending a significant amount of time around the burn pit (towards the rear of the mangrove park). It would seem the monkeys are doing their best to make up for a deficit of fruit and vegetation.

Using thermography, I captured many macaque images that show the relation between the monkey's body heat signature and the heat signature of the environment around them.

After a few months more of collecting the thermal imaging data, I'm hoping it might reveal some interesting information.

Other News:

The short documentary film "Fragmented: A Tale of Urban Survival" has finished editing and will premiere on YouTube very soon! I'm excited to share the story of Troop Bravo in an educational and entertaining way. Just getting folks to think about troops of wild monkeys living in densely populated urban areas will help in conservation efforts. As they say, education is the key.
